Do you ever just know, just have a feeling, when someone has had a REALLY bad day?
Allow me to share:
Everyone knows I have dogs. When I last picked them up from the groomer here in Stamford, I walked in and the groomer had a REALLY bad day. I could just tell. Unshed tears littered the air.
In my usual cheery self, I asked, "How'd they do?"
"You're dogs were the bright spot in my day!" she says emphatically.
(Hint: This is known as foreshadowing.)
If you've ever met my dogs, you'd know they are very good dogs and I expect a lot of them. As with most dogs, mine, at times, can be somewhat of a handful. Especially if you touch their feet. A little. Or a lot. Which you do when grooming them. So you can see that a visit to the groomer has the potential to be less than their finest moment.
The groomer proceeded to tell me how she had two Weimaraners in for baths. If you don't know much about the breed, they are very large, active and require a great deal of attention and exercise. They have the nickname of the Grey Ghost.
"They were just too big," she cried. "Too much. I'd never had them in before. I should have known better. It's just me here by myself and I should have known what I was getting myself into," she lamented.
"What happened?" I asked tentatively.
"There was no cage big enough for them. I put them in the bathroom."
Uh huh.
At this point I'm thinking, "Oh they ate a roll of toilet paper and got sick" or something small like that. Mine eat toilet paper, napkins, paper towels all the time. Its their paper product fetish. If you don't remember how I fixed it, check back to this post.
"The sink. I thought it was secured to the wall. Its never been loose or anything like that. Never wiggled, nothing. They just ripped it off the wall and started to chew the porcelain. Then the pipes. And there was water spurting out everywhere. I had to call my husband to come turn the water off."
I looked past her and noticed the heaps of wet towels covering the floor.
Oh. My.
"They never got the bath. I have no water. I had to call the owner to come get them. She wanted to bring them back tomorrow and I told her no way, never again. The dogs thought it was a game; great fun for them to play in the water. She's just lucky I'm not charging her a damage fee."
This groomer is very nice and does great work. My dogs look superb. Apparently they were first in line that day. But every single time I pick them up, she has a story for me. This story, however, is the best one yet.
You're welcome.
